🧳 Planning Your Stay

🔪 Is it scary the whole time?

Nope! You’re in full control. The special effects (sounds, lighting, etc.) can be turned on or off using a switch in the hallway.

🛏 Is the cabin family-friendly? Can I bring my kids?

Yes — we’ve had guests of all ages enjoy the cabin! While it’s horror-themed, it’s designed to be fun-spooky, not terrifying. That said, every family is different, so we recommend reviewing the photos to make sure the vibe feels right for yours.

If you’re bringing kids, please note:

  • The cabin is not baby-proofed
  • Some small décor items (like mini LEGO figures) could be choking hazards
  • There’s a low cement fireplace hearth and some furniture with sharp corners
  • Cleaning supplies are stored under the kitchen sink (feel free to move them higher)
  • Haunted effects (like flashing lights and spooky sounds) can be turned off at any time—or remotely by us if you need help

We’re always happy to answer questions or help you decide if it’s the right fit!

🧊 Is there air conditioning & heat?

Yes! Big Bear weather varies a lot throughout the year, but we’ve got you covered with:

  • A/C for warm days
  • Heating for cooler nights
  • Fans and a cozy electric fireplace (more for ambience than heat)
  • Light blankets in summer and warm comforters in winter

🍳 I love to cook—what’s the kitchen situation?

The kitchen is small but mighty! It’s well-stocked with basic cooking and baking essentials. When you book, you’ll get a full guide with a list of what’s included so you can plan ahead.

🧼 Are linens and toiletries provided?

Yes! We provide all sheets, pillows, blankets, and comforters—even for the pull-out sofa. You’ll also find hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, and fragrance-free body wash.

🧽 Is there a cleaning fee? What’s expected before checkout?

Yes, there’s a cleaning fee to make sure the cabin is sparkling clean when you arrive. Our cleaning crew is incredible—they’re horror fans too and help reset the space with all the spooky surprises just right.

Before checkout, we’ll send a short, easy list—just a few quick things to help us keep the place in great shape.

🐕 Can we bring pets?

We don’t allow pets in the cabin to help protect the space and its vintage pieces. That said, we’re always happy to accommodate guests traveling with a service animal.

🔥 Is there a fire pit?

No open flames are allowed due to fire safety laws—we’re surrounded by beautiful, flammable forest! But we do have cozy lighting and lots of horror-themed ambiance to enjoy instead.

❓What if I have a question before or during my stay?

Please reach out—we truly love hearing from guests! The best way to contact us is through Airbnb messages, and we’ll reply as quickly as we can.

We’ve tried to cover everything, but if you can’t find the extra toilet paper or aren’t sure how something works, just send a message. No question is too small—and if you just want to share how much fun you’re having, we love that too!

🗺 Getting There & Getting Around

🌄 What’s the drive like to Big Bear?

It’s a beautiful but winding mountain drive with curvy roads and some steep drop-offs.

Winter note:

  • Weather can change quickly—always check the forecast before driving
  • During snow season, chains must be carried at all times, even in 4WD vehicles
  • When chains are required, you’ll see roadside vendors who can install them for a fee

🚗 How do I get around if I don’t want to drive?

The easiest way up the mountain is by car, but once you’re here:

  • There’s a free local trolley with tons of stops around Big Bear (one is just a 2-minute walk from the cabin!)
  • Rideshare apps like Uber/Lyft can be unreliable, but there’s a great local taxi service we recommend with stellar reviews.

📍 Where is the cabin located?

We’re in Big Bear, California—on the quieter east end of town. You’ll get the full address and arrival details a few days before check-in.

🧭 What’s nearby?

Right near the cabin (within walking distance), you’ll find a bar/restaurant, a park, a convenience store, and hiking trails. Big Bear is packed with fun—from lakeside activities to cozy cafés and shops. You can get to most places in 5–15 minutes by car. You’ll receive a full travel guide after booking with our favorite spots and local tips.

🏕 What can I expect when staying in a cabin in the woods?

Our cabin is surrounded by the San Bernardino National Forest, so you’ll truly be immersed in nature.

That means fresh air, forest views—and yes, wildlife! Guests have spotted:

  • Chipmunks
  • Coyotes
  • Wild donkeys
  • (Occasionally) bears—rare, but possible in the mountains

In the warmer months, you might also encounter ants, spiders, and flying bugs. We seal up the cabin as best we can and provide bug spray and traps just in case.

We recommend being alert when walking outside, especially at night. Keep food sealed and use the provided trash bins. It’s all part of the forest cabin experience—and one of the things that makes your stay so special.
